Some years ago in my reading, I ran across an intriguing thought. What if everything that you forgot to be thankful for today were to be taken away tomorrow? Okay, I frequently remember to thank God for the obvious things like my family, my work, forgiveness, ample food and particularly nice weather. (Or our cozy house, sometimes when the weather is particularly un-nice.) But what about the less-obvious?
How would I get along if my unthankfulness made me lose out on…
blue jeans
cars
chocolate
staplers (and staple pullers!)
pink roses
digital photography
gum
soft carpet
books
my dog
the Internet
non-stick cookware
Wow, I take a lot of things for granted. What about you? Suppose we spend one day practicing; giving thanks for all the things we wouldn’t like to be without. I wonder how different your day, or mine, might look.
I am linking this post to Jen’s Soli Deo Gloria group. I meet some awesome ladies there!
Thanks for reading!
Jan
I like this perspective….
when we see things in this way we have many things to say thank you….but I feel for my self i just take them for granted…..

You know, I think this would be particularly helpful for me, when I start to get overwhelmed with what I don’t have (which is sometimes energy and time), to start spouting out what I do have or what I have accomplished and be…thankful. I also think I might use this with my kids. Sure, they might not have x, but they do have y and z. It’s about taking a moment to reflect on the little gifts God gives us, ones that truly do make a difference.
SO glad you linked up today!

Jan,
How true! Just think of all the things I take for granted that would disappear. My bed, good friends, the rain, all of the books sitting right next to me. Nice meeting you through Jen!

The days I count my blessings are the most content days. If I’m disgruntled, most likely it’s my ingratitude. I think stopping each day to take some time to be thankful for all the inconspicuous conveniences of the American life is an excellent habit that I am trying to cultivate . . . 🙂
Thanks for coming by my blog today and for your kind comments! 🙂 It means a lot that they came from another Lewis and Tolkien fan! God bless!
