Lately I’ve been listening to the Peter Furler Band’s new album, Sun and Shield. One song in particular has grabbed my imagination. Besides the tune being so catchy and energetic that I find myself singing it while bicycling, walking, or whatever, the lyrics are massively encouraging. The title is “Dare I Say” and you can hear a sample of it here.
In the song the narrator addresses our unseen enemy, satan. As one who has trusted Christ and come into the family of God by faith, he calls satan’s bluff, as it were. Exposes his threats as empty. Here is the chorus:
I know
there’s a target on my back,
and you’re ready to attack,
but there’s something that you lack–
you’re gonna miss me.I know
you got nothing up your sleeve,
so go back to where you came,
it don’t matter where you aim–
you’re gonna miss me.*
Some of my friends are battling the devil’s attacks right now. They are stuck in a dark place. Things look pretty grim. Let me encourage you, though. For those who belong to God, no matter the attack, the devil will never hit his target. Even when you get hurt and it looks as if satan has beaten you.
If you don’t believe me, consider this: though the devil succeeded in having Jesus crucified, God turned that unspeakable tragedy into the greatest victory on earth… as he intended all along.
Jesus rose from the dead.
And satan missed again.
Happy Easter!
Thanks for reading,
Jan

Amen and Amen, there is no hope for the devil when there is our risen Savior. Praise Him!

Love this, Janice… I have betting spiritually attacked on 3 sides lately (minister, motherhood and my fitness journey) so it is so encouraging to read this wonderfully true reminder. Thanks you! Glad I stopped by from SDG. 🙂

Stopping by from SDG Sisterhood. Thanks for this encouragement! I love the idea of Satan missing again. We’ve battled so many more attacks these last few years at our new ministry position. The opposition seems so strong and entrenched. But I know who will have the final victory, whether it be now or in years to come! 🙂

was just talking with a friend about this very thing…..so hard at times to press on when the enemy is hard and fast on our heels but praise God for the truths you speak of today.

Yes, pressing on can be so difficult — only possible when we rely on the Lord. Thank you for stopping by.
