cropped-img_1465.jpgI can’t believe it: in a little under three years I have published 199 posts. This one is #200. Thanks to all who have read these thoughts. I wouldn’t keep writing if it weren’t for you readers! I mean, what would be the point?

Anyway, to show my appreciation, I wanted to do something different just for you. How’s about a poll to see what kind of posts you like best??

Here’s me below, wondering what my readers want most. Will you tell me which category you like best of all? (Yeah, the picture is totally Photoshopped–my hair doesn’t really look like that.) You can choose up to two favorites below, or choose a favorite AND add a write-in candidate.

And on a related note, here’s a question that has been bugging me for ages. The experts say that a blog should be all about one topic, or one category. Rebel that I am, I publish book reviews AND goofy stories about marriage & parenting AND bicycling tales AND devotional/spiritual posts. My rationale: I want my readers to think of me as a friend, chatting over coffee. Now, when I meet friends for lunch or coffee, we don’t talk about just one thing. I don’t have one friend who discusses only her kids, another who talks about nothing but books, a third who never says a thing that isn’t in the Bible, and one who shares recipes but never mentions her husband or kids.

Am I driving people away with all this variety? Do my bicycling readers want to throw the computer out the window when they see a gooey post about my kids? I can’t figure it out on my own so I’ll just turn to you for your answer…

Again, this blog is for you, the reader. Whether you simply click a bubble, or go on to elaborate in the comments, I welcome your honest opinion.

Well, that’s all the homework for this time. I can’t thank you enough for your feedback!

Oh — I am linking up this week with Jen and the Soli Deo Gloria sisters.

Thanks for reading,
Jan

About Jan C. Johnson

Welcome! If you like food, reading, laughing over life's little disasters, and maybe thinking about the bigger things of life, you have come to the right place. Besides blogging, I write humorous fiction, though real life tends to leave fictional humor in the shade. But I'm not a total goofball. No, really. I'm also working on a biography project. I live in North Texas with my husband, Brent. We enjoy bicycling, Mexican food, and traveling to visit our kids and grandkids.

Congrats on #200! I am certainly not an expert in blogging, but I really enjoy the variety of stories in a blog. I believe that helps us to get to know the person. I’ve made some very good friends with bloggers I’ve never met because I connect with stories, all different kinds, that they have written. It’s fun that way.
Thank you for coming by my place and leaving a comment. It is so nice to meet you!

Leave it just the way it is…I am in agreement with the others! Some variety actually keeps a reader’s interest! Some people do go to blogs for one topic, but I find they do it for a quick recipe or plan or something and only stick with that blog if it is related to a passion or hobby they are pursuing. Otherwise, I think blogs should be about the person and have a variety with the writer’s voice shining thru…you do that and I love your voice! 🙂

Dionne, Thank you– as always– for your encouraging words. So far NO ONE has said to stick with one topic! I feel a burst of energy coming on… woo hoo!

I just read this week that all posts should be about the same topic and I said, “phooey!” Because I’d get bored writing them.
